31 July

"God has put some talents into your hands.
Some of you have heard or will hear the call
to become priests, religious or nuns,
or even lay people committed in the world.
Let Christ guide you and never be afraid
of answering like the young Samuel to serve in the Church!

A place not to miss! Trevi nel Lazio

Trevi in Lazio is an Italian municipality in the province of Frosinone. These days, this beautiful place is one of the Euromoot route points… the town will never have seen so many scouts as in July 2019!

It is located in the upper Aniene Valley where it forms the characteristic waterfalls of Trevi. The area is surrounded by the Simbruini and Ernic mountains. The village is composed of three areas: the ancient village perched on the hill, la Civita, an area called “in the middle of the earth” and a third outside the Renaissance walls, developed later. One of the most interesting places in Trevi is the Caetani Castle, probably founded in the year 1000. Before the castle passed into the hands of the Caetani Family, the property was owned by Pope Alexander IV, who later turned the structure over to his nephew, and to the monastery of Subiaco.

Over the years, the houses of the village have taken over its walls and in fact, after the earthquake of

1915, part of the castle was incorporated into the adjacent houses. Subsequently, the castle was abandoned and in 1984, the renovation work began. Thanks to the recent renovation, it is possible to see inside the castle a local stone, the cardellino, with which several houses are built. Today, inside the castle, you can see the main hall in which weddings are celebrated in civil rite. In this hall, there’s also the symbol of the city of Trevi: a dove, representing St. Peter the Hermit, patron saint of the city, and standing on the five mountains surrounding the city. Some archaeological treasures were found in a nearby location.

From the tower you can look out onto the mountains surrounding Trevi: the Simbruini Mountains and the Hernic Mountains. Other interesting points are the Church of St. Mary Assunta with the crypt of St. Peter where the remains of the patron saint are located, the Oratory of St. Peter the Hermit where the young hermit probably died, and the Chapel of Our Lady of Rest, erected in 1483 and dedicated to the Virgin.
