Various cultures, and a same ideal

Various cultures, and a same ideal

Thibault van den Bossche

About thirty senior guides are sitting on the ground in small groups, with a small wooden board and a few cups of paint in between their legs. It’s a special activity, this afternoon, on the stadium of Acquapendente: reproducing a large-scale cross. It was designed in pencil, then cut up. Each group is painting its part, and then the cross will be assembled again. It’s an opportunity for the senior guides to meet more. Indeed, they are taking part in Euromoot within a French-Italian-Polish twinning which gathers four Fires: the Saint Rita Fire from Toulon and the Notre-Dame de Beauregard Fire from Marseilles, the Saint Catherine of Siena Fire from Warsaw, and the Symphonia del Torrente Fire from Cimadolmo (Trevise).

First of all, it’s all about the meeting of various cultures. The young girls are split in small teams made of two French girls, an Italian girl and a Polish girl for several activities such as preparing Mass or the campfire. To break the ice, the guides used sense of humour and mockery. During the campfire, each country staged the clichés it had on the others. The French were thus summarised by the words snails, cheese and baguette, all in song. “They’re singing all the time, it’s wonderful!”, confirmed a Pole while the group was on its way to Mass.

Being at the service of the other keeps on coming up during a camp, especially when preparing meals. “One has to step out of our little life. We are a hundred miles away from our bed and our shower. There’s a true spiritual side in senior guides”, Anne explains. The international dimension of Euromoot also allows new enhancements. “We are coming from all over Europe, we do not always have the same practices; we share, however, a same faith.”

So, the international meetings on service and faith form the axiom of this Euromoot. Sharing will go on and will intensify from now to the final meeting in Rome.
